Activities

  • Invite community musicians to perform, and ask them to talk about their performance, and the purpose and characteristics of their music.
  • Attend concerts for schools, and evaluate performances.
  • Listen to other students play or sing, and evaluate performances.
  • Discuss, draw or write personal responses to a wide range of music.
  • Review a performance, then read reviews by others and discuss.
  • Choose a recording and present it to the class.
  • Choose a scene in a video (such as Shrek) where there is no dialogue.
    • Turning the monitor away from the class, ask them to imagine what the action is while they listen to the soundtrack.
    • Choose another scene and view it without sound. Discuss what kind of music would be appropriate for this scene and why.
