This section contains useful links to websites to support teaching NCEA Level 1 Art History.

  • Art in the Picture : this website provides an introduction to art history and includes information on artists' painting, styles and movement.
  • Artcyclopedia : Artcyclopedia is an index of online museums and image archives.
  • Arts Connected : dedicated to Arts teachers, Art Connected is part of the Walker Art Centre Minneapolis Institute of Arts website. Available are a range of visual art lessons for all levels including some interactive activities mostly based around elements composition and galleries. Activities are linked to samples of artists' works. You can also link back to the Walker Art Centre to view art works and related material.
  • Chinese Lantern Festival : this New Zealand curriculum resource from the Asia Knowledge website encourages students to explore how the Chinese lantern festival is celebrated and to discover why this festival is significant to people of Chinese descent. An inquiry approach is used. The unit is suitable for middle and upper primary levels.
