Practical Differentiation

Chapter navigation:

LEAPS 1
Task:
  • Take off from your left leg and land on your right leg
  • Take off from your right leg and land on your left leg
Aim to:
  • Keep your torso still
  • Lead with the opposite arm to the forward leg
  • Point your toes
  • Land lightly
LEAPS 2
Task:
  • Stag leap
  • Scissor Kick
  • Side leap
Aim to:
  • Keep your torso still
  • Be as elevated as possible
  • Point your toes
  • Land lightly
LEAPS 3
Task:
  • Invent a new leap
  • Create a new way into and out of an �old� leap or your new leap
  • Compose a sequence of 2 leaps with interesting linking moves
Aim to:
  • Be original
  • Teach one of your tasks to another person
360o TURNS 1 (also called Pirouettes)
Task:
  • A turn out on the left leg (to the left)
  • A turn out on the right leg (to the right)
Aim to:
  • Keep your centre of gravity (your tummy button) over the support leg
  • Spot = keep your eyes on a spot in front of you for as long as possible and find it again after the turn
  • Keep your arms curved
  • Finish with your non-support leg in front
360o TURNS 2 (also called Pirouettes)
Task:
  • A turn in on the left leg (to the right)
  • A turn in on the right leg (to the left)
Aim to:
  • Keep your centre of gravity over the support leg
  • Spot
  • Keep your arms curved
  • Finish with your non-support leg behind
TURNS 3
Task:
  • A double turn in (either leg)
  • A double turn out (either leg)
  • Invent a new turn What angle is your torso on? How are your arms held? What is your non-support leg doing?
  • Create a phrase of turns with a dynamic finish!
Aim to:
  • Be as controlled and smooth as possible
  • Teach your phrase to another student
