Professional Acting Techniques

This workshop is best suited to Senior Drama students over a week of classes. Students will learn professional acting techniques to help expand and inspire them in their performance. Over the lessons they will expand on their own skills toolbox and techniques. Some of the topics that are covered are voice, script analysis, ways to approach a character and approach the text, Laban and Acting Methodology in particular the Stanislavski Technique. I can tailor this workshop to suit your specific requirements. Students will experience acting at a professional level and have a greater understanding of how and what techniques a professional actor may use to approach a role. This workshop would work well with students wanting to follow up on their high school drama experience. Focus on Stanislavski, Brecht, Artaud.

“This piece was beautifully acted. Never once has a single woman held my attention for a whole hour and fifteen minutes. The amazing thing about Merrin Cavel’s performance was that she showed a colossal amount of diversity as an actor within the small time of the play. Not only did she portray Lauren Roche as a child, but she developed with her role into the fully matured woman she is today. - Phil Luke (Salient March 2007)

“This production was an excellent start of a journey that Cavel seems to be willing to commit to. She has incredible strength to continue the work that this extraordinary story demand. - Diane Spodarek - writer, poet, playwright and performer.

“Already a skilled and effective actor, Merrin has considerable talent and potential as a presenter. She relates well to the camera and will be very good as her experience in writing and presenting grows. I believe Merrin to be a valuable member of any creative team.” - Ian Johnstone QSO – presenter, producer
