Guitar Through the Ages

The focus of this demonstration is to talk about the history of the guitar through the Middle ages to the Present Day, playing examples of pieces written for the instrument and other closely related instruments such as the Lute.
This widens the students knowledge and understanding of the wide spectrum of music which can played on the guitar. It is not just an accompanying instrument. It is a solo instrument in its own right - as is the piano. Any type of music can be played on it, from Baroque to Jazz to Punk Rock.

Qualifications

I am an International Classical Guitarist, and I have been teaching for over 40 years in schools in the UK and in NZ. Having 5 adult children of my own, I have a great understanding and a love of working with children.
I taught guitar at the Nelson School of Music for many years, and more recently at Chilton Saint James School in Lower Hutt. As well as giving private lessons I have also been teaching 7-11yr olds in small groups at Gallery Music Centre which is an excellent MOE funded local Music School, run on Saturday mornings.
I am a graduate of the Manchester College of Music (NZQA equivalent to a Bachelor of Music degree), and also won two International guitar competitions when I was 19. I have appeared on stage, TV and radio in many European countries. and have just completed a solo tour of Canada and the UK in July/Aug 2014
In Dec 2014 I will be moving to Auckland to further my career as a performing artist and teacher. I would welcome the opportunity to perform, demonstrate or teach the classical guitar in any school or arts centre and can be contacted through Musicnet, or through my website cherylgriceguitar.com
My album 'Un Sueno en la Floresta' is available on iTunes and at CdBaby.com. You can also listen to my music on my website, or on You Tube.
