Ravil Atlas has had an impact on thousands of school age children. Throughout his 25 year performing career Ravil has led classes in opera, musical theatre, acting and choral music in the US, UK, and New Zealand. He holds a masters degree in vocal performance, is an accomplished teacher, with many of his students having moved on to professional work in the US and Europe, and is an avid researcher and presenter. A relative newcomer to New Zealand, he has already achieved major accomplishments with school vocal and choral instruction taking on choirs at Burnside High School and Chisnallwood Intermediate School. In his first year here Ravil led two choirs to gold medals in his first ever Big Sing. He taught at the 2011 National Singing School in Napier and was a guest tutor for the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts (NASDA) and has been hired as vocal coach for Southern Opera.
He has been a presenter for award winning school programmes from California to New York, has toured with his one-man show “Tenor Jokes” throughout America on the Community Concerts circuit, and has already appeared with the Christchurch Symphony, Southern Opera, and Showbiz Christchurch in leading roles. His long and varied career has taken him from rock and jazz to musical theatre and opera in six countries with some of the world’s most important conductors and directors. HIs credits include more than 70 professional opera productions in leading roles, ten years of Broadway performances including Les Miserables (Valjean) and Phantom of the Opera (Piangi) and numerous concerts with orchestras. He is highly trained in conducting, acting, stage direction, and vocal pedagogy. Having now permanently settled in New Zealand he is enjoying focusing on teaching, researching, writing and presenting.
