My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)
Kia ora, I’m a 22-year-old Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Maru Māori female descendant with professional skills in dance and drama. I have a strong background in the hip-hop dance industry. Being an international performer I have represented New Zealand numerous times in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Melbourne, Cancun etc . As a profession, I own and direct my own dance company which gives me the responsibility of choreographing multiple routines and directing shows. Within the studio we tutor over 300 students over all different ages, abilities, and ethnicities. As a studio and a mentor, I focus on improving and developing the confidence and knowledge of eager students. My aim is to develop a programme that helps students develop an understanding of how the creative process works when it comes to dance and movement. I plan to give advice and improvising techniques for modern movement. Our core exercises will be based on performance/facials and how to use your energy/stage presence while performing. Students will have then have the skills to devise their own choreographed routine. I believe my knowledge and skills will benefit students while still supporting the NCEA curriculum.
My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with
- As outlined above, plus the following.
- Elite dancer 10 years plus International performer.
- Business owner.
- School dance programme director.
- Choreographer.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes
As a dance mentor I teach students of all ages, the youngest being 3 and the oldest being over 60. Depending on the age, it is wise to choose age-appropriate songs. Songs that they relate to and find 'hip' is a a great way to keep the students engaged and excited. I would class myself as an experienced instructor as I have been teaching for over 7 years.
