Based in: Otago
Where I'm available:

When I'm available: As a full-time artist and art educator, I have several threads to my working week. Schools and Kura could contact me to negotiate a time that would suit them and the independent art education initiative I'm associated with.

My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a co-founder and partner in an independent art education initiative. I an an experienced artist and art educator. I am a painter who has worked on a range of artworks, but have a profile as an artist who paints Portraits. I am experienced with working on school and community art projects. Look online for more info about our art initiatives and the independent art education initiative's teaching philosophy.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I am a practising artist who has had a long career as a painter. I have exhibited my paintings many times over the years at a range of galleries and venues. I hold a Master of Fine Arts, with Excellence, from Otago Polytechnic Art School. I am an experienced teacher who is a skilled art educator. As a partner in an independent art education initiative I have provided several art projects for schools and community groups. You can view our visual art projects on our website to see our approach.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I am a registered teacher, who was trained as a Secondary School art teacher, but have worked in Intermediates and part time in Tertiary delivering art education for beginning teachers at a College of Education. I teach our after-school art classes for Primary-aged children, and also work with adults teaching art workshops at my studio. I am experienced in working with teachers and negotiating art projects to suit specific contexts.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I am passionate about the place of visual art education in the lives of all people but especially the young. Working in schools is something I am skilled at, but often artists' skills and expertise cannot be paid for as School curriculum budgets do not allow for it. Being part of this scheme would mean I could work in schools and receive a sustainable income for doing so.
