My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I studied Jewellery design for three years under a tutor at an art school. I work predominantly in silver, gold, gems, stone, shell, resin, bone. I'm experienced in manufacturing fine jewellery but my passion lies with contemporary designed jewellery, natural materials – shell, bone, stone and silver.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I commenced my 3 years of study of jewellery design in 2001, graduating in 2003. I was part of a number of group exhibitions during this time. I have worked for a company as a manufacturing jeweller supplying Pascoes and Michael Hill jeweller. I have worked for myself designing and making bespoke one-off pieces for clients.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

My experience working with children to date has been limited to assisting with school activities (swimming and field trips) and taking care of my own two children ages 6 and 8. I believe I have a natural ability for understanding the needs of children with a view to enhancing their knowledge and experience.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I would love the opportunity to become involved in the Creatives in Schools programme as I view creative learning as a vital component in creating a holistic balance, involving hands-on experience. Creativity allows freedom of expression and practical skills which are transferable to many other areas and everyday life. Improving fine and gross motors skills, problem solving, imagination and being able to frequently adapt. I'm excited about sharing my knowledge and skills with children. When designing for myself, my adult mind often tells me something won't work and the creative process is shut down but being around children's free uninhibited creative thinking helps me to think this way also and I'm able to take my designs further.
