My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I work extensively with Resene paints outdoors, on murals and ground-games for children and the wider community. Also multi-media/found object creations. Sculpting in lime and cement or Pal Tiya (a Weta Workshop cement medium) for indoor and outdoor sculptures - gardens and galleries. I am a multi-winner/runner-up of Resene Mural Masterpieces. I have been nominated for the Landmarks Trust award and MCL Art Hawke's Bay Sculpture Award. Also a sustainable garden award...for my 20 acres planted for bees, birds, lizards, and butterflies.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

  • Trained at Wellington Polytechnic - Visual Communication Course.
  • HB Community College/EIT Craft/Design course.
  • 30 years of painting ground games and murals within schools, kindergartens, kohanga reo.
  • 25 years of working with public installations for festivals, theatre, and parades, weddings and funerals.
  • 30 years of exhibiting in galleries.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

Usually I work FOR children rather than with them. I translate their ideas into visual concepts for murals/posters etc. I have run a number of craft tables and courses in the school holidays- employed by local council and community galleries. I am a mother and a grandmother.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I want to be part of this because I have always been part of this, and would like to be linked to more of this. With this sort of funding and team work, our visions can grow so much more creativity with such exciting results.
