My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I have been a Visual Art specialist for over 16 years as well as a Visual Art lecturer at Auckland University. I am a current practising New Zealand Pasifika artist with strengths in mosaic and clay, yet teach all forms of media. I have a passion for beautifying school environments involving both the students and the community. I currently have art works in galleries around New Zealand and have won awards in New Zealand Mosaic Exhibitions.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

Over the years I have been involved in many creative projects involving students from preschool through to adult age. I am a current visual art specialist as well as a current practising New Zealand Pasifika artist. I have had my work exhibited in different galleries around New Zealand and currently have work in two different galleries. Earlier this year I had a solo exhibition at Corbans Estate Art Centre.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I am a trained primary-school teacher with 31 years teaching experience. I have been a visual art specialist for over 16 years. I have facilitated many visual art school projects in a variety of schools around New Zealand. I teach after-school classes in my community, both children and adult ages. Currently a Visual Art specialist at a primary school running a school-wide ceramics programme where student ceramic work is used to beautify the school environment and a Visual Art specialist at an intermediate teaching the visual art curriculum.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

My wanting to participate in the Creative in Schools programme is a passion that I have for working together with students and community to beautify a local or school environment. My involvement in the Creative in Schools programme will give schools the opportunity to have sufficient funding to cater for not only enhancing their environment but it will also allow the opportunity to welcome in the local community to participate and also experience a new art media. To learn a process and enrich students with new knowledge and skills that help them to understand the time and preparation that goes in to creating an art project.
