My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I have loved art all my life and over the years looked for opportunities to not only extend my skill set but to share that passion with others. Art has the power to provoke and communicate for both the artist and viewer. With a predominant focus in murals, I have worked in the community in a variety of capacities and with people of all ages and demographics. From Government-funded projects to commissioned-based work, I have had the privilege of working alongside others, providing them with an opportunity to not only extend their skills artistically but to understand the therapeutic benefits attached to the craft.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

  • Youth Worker, Salvation Army - Sole-charge creative development of youth buildings (for example, murals, graffiti contests, etc).
  • MSD - Working with young people within creative contexts.
  • Department of Corrections - Working with young offenders and youth at risk, mural-based community projects.
  • At a school - Working on a Year 7/8 six-week intensive programme - mural painting.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

As mentioned above, I have worked with a range of people in age and demographic. As an artistic facilitator, it is always my aim to not only produce an end product that everyone can be proud of but develop a process where those involved feel valued and belonging to that process. In regards to theme, it is always my aim to collaborate with the school or organisation to achieve an outcome that complements their objectives as well as demonstrating my genre, e.g. mural, portrait, graffiti, cartoon, realism, pop art, and abstract.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I have a heart for young people and enjoy seeing their interest in art grow. Sharing my skills and talents provides an opportunity for young people to develop their own craft and pursue their interest in the visual arts arena.
