My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

We are a Creative New Zealand investment client with a mission to develop resilient and dynamic young performing artists. We have been working with emerging artists of 14-24 years for 29 years. Our professional tutors are trained and experienced with developing youth. All our tutors are police vetted. We specialise in physical theatre and devising new work, but we also work with commissioned scripts.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

All our company members and tutors are leading practitioners in the performing arts field, and our primary work is with youth, and the development of emerging artists. Our leader has both national and international recognition as a leading practitioner working with youth. We are a Creative New Zealand investment client recognised specifically for our development of young people in the performing arts. We have an annual programme of activities for developing youth outside of school, and we are also contracted by schools to deliver bespoke workshops in consultation with the education professionals and schools. We work in both kura and schools across Tamaki Makarau, and on a national level when touring productions, or as required.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

We have been working in the creative field, developing performing artists within and outside of schools for 29 years. We deliver an annual production to a professional level with youth. We are recognised as leaders for teaching drama by both educational professionals and students.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

This type of project is key to our company kaupapa and accomplishes and enhances our programme of in-schools taster workshops and annual programme of activities. This funding allows schools to be able to access us for a project of substantial length and depth without draining their limited resources. And this in return continues to develop our in-schools pedagogy and allows us the opportunity to work with schools and their youth who would either like to deepen the relationship with us or experience us for the first time.
