My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I have been working on community arts projects for the last decade, I have created numerous murals in the Wellington region and worked with many groups, schools, and councils. My specialty is helping communities recognise their unique qualities and to celebrate these in public art. I am passionate about building communities through art and see this as essential to creating a resilient regenerative society.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

In 2019 the year started with a school project to collect creative input for the changes in housing in that suburb ending in a group murals project. I then worked on a project collaborating with a German group and a small number of New Zealan creatives and No Boundaries to create a climate change mural. As the year progressed I worked with schools to create a digital mural for their community center. In terms 3–4 I worked with a community centre to create a carved MDF laser cut mural for their town library. Over most of the year, I have been working with a company, and local Muslim communities to create a large digital mural in response to March 15th. I have been working in a local area collaborating with the Sikh, Chinese, and Pacific communities to celebrate diversity in a mural. Presently I am back in Naenae working with a Boxing gym creating a mural. I am ending the year working with an intermediate school collaborating on another community centre mural. So a busy 2019, looking for less and longer projects in 2020.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I have worked in four schools over the last year. Teaching is an area I am learning a lot from working alongside experienced teachers in schools. I am looking to build my skills in this area.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

Creativity for me is a human need and I enjoy facilitating opportunities for self and collective expression. I have had a busy year and would like to have a small number of deeper projects in 2020. This might be an opportunity to do this.
