My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

Creating discourse has been the main priority for the projects over the last few years, through the use of language I have sought to provoke thought and further discussion, in a public space the projects are there to get the attention of the passer-by. I like to work away from the computer, as a graphic designer I spend a lot of time staring at a screen, and as beneficial of a tool this computer is I see the importance in experimenting with the physical object, letting the material and production influence the work is a crucial aspect of the way I work.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I've completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Canterbury University, throughout those four years studying I've been a part of as well as doing my own various amounts of projects.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I couldn't claim to have ever facilitated a creative process with children, the experience I have working with children comes in the form of coaching. I've coached basketball teams from my high school, I played basketball throughout high school and experienced a way of coaching that left people out and didn't seek to take advantage of what individuals are good at, rather force them to get better. One of the most truly satisfying things I found through coaching these children was finding an aspect or skill of the game that they had and getting them to use that. Having experienced something like this in sports makes me wonder if I can achieve similar things through the art I make.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

Having finished my degree and becoming part of the big wide world I want to involve myself creatively in any way possible, as I mentioned earlier I seek to create discourse, specifically among the younger generations. The generations above me are set in their ways, their opinions and ideologies are influenced by things that are becoming less and less relevant, working in a school will give me the opportunity to work alongside children who — much like myself — are trying to figure out where they stand in the world, learning that their opinions matter just as much as anyone else. For me the creative process was the perfect way of getting to a point of confidence, that may not be the case for most, but for the few that are engaged in creating I want to be a part of guiding them through that challenge.
