I am a qualified textile designer passionate about fashion and accessories, looking to enter the vibrant fashion and textile industry in New Zealand. I have a broad range of skills and experience from having worked as a designer for home textiles to designing and producing fashion accessories, working with local Indian artisans. In addition to my production and design experience, I have great communication skills and experience managing teams, liaising with both clients and artists for large and small-scale projects. I have also managed my own small business for the last 5 years, making custom-designed accessories for an international client base and am adept at social media marketing. I am now on the lookout for a challenging and fun opportunity to exercise the skills I have acquired over the years.

I have worked in a creative team, teaching workshops and I believe that my peers/partners who have facilitated workshops with me would have good things to say about these experiences. I have successfully delivered summer workshops (art and craft) with a school before (in my hometown back in India).
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes
I have taught art and craft workshops (paper craft, folk art, textile art, etc.) for children and young adults as well as shibori dyeing workshops for adults. I have always been comfortable around children and enjoy working with them. The children I've worked with also grew fond of me and my teaching. Teaching is always fulfilling to me, for my creativity. It is a great opportunity to get to know people and learn from them in turn. I have worked with children aged 10–15, teenagers and adults ranging from 18 to 50 years of age. I think paper crafts, textile art and upcyling are the themes that would be interesting to young people. I have worked with these themes with children and experienced that they've enjoyed these.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice
I am always looking for opportunities to interact with people and engage in creative activities. The Creatives in Schools programme seems like the perfect opportunity for me. It will help me channel my creativity and of course, learn more while I teach what I know.
