My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a mixed media artist who works with creating paintings and other digital mediums that I then turn into things or objects. I have made clothing, bags and notebooks as I am trying to use my craft to financially secure my future and I would like to be able to encourage others to do so. My focus and strengths are to encourage young Polynesians and Māori to find employment within the arts sector, as I know there are countless students with so much talent and potential out there although are encouraged to not pursue art. As art is my passion it is very important to me. I do not have any limitations on my creativeness and do not consider myself as an artist but as a creative all-rounder who has a variety of skills ranging from photography to canvas painting.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I am a practicing artist who has a degree in creative arts, had work in galleries, and travelled overseas as a guest artist, I have worked on community projects and also have other professional artists who would refer me. I have extensive knowledge on working in the photography industry and fashion photography.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I am comfortable working with children of all ages as I have four now grown children of my own. I have worked with children in the painting of a mural, which included everything from setting up to showing the children techniques. I have also taught an art class at Woodbridge primary school. I have trained adults and teens in portrait photography I have also worked with models of all ages. My work is quite strongly Pacific themed so it usually attracts Pacific island and Māori children as they are curious and keen to learn the stories behind my work.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

As a Pacific Islander myself I would really be honoured to be able to represent other islanders and to help them grow in a positive direction I am very passionate about working with local and other communities as I would like to be able to share my skills with students in a way that would benefit others and not only myself. I really believe that I can not only teach others but encourage them and show them that you can do art as a career and following your passions is just as important as any other subjects within the school system. It is important to me to be able to work with children to show them that they can also be successful by being a creative person and I do believe this can only be done through the school systems I would love to be able to be a part of such an amazing opportunity.
